Moonlight Mile (2002)

I like this film a lot. I like that it takes place during the last few years of the Vietnam war but only mentions it once, instead of repeatedly reminding us with war footage and clichéd debates at the dinner table. I like the soundtrack, even if it is a bit heavy-handed, and even if there is a slightly indulgent use of T. Rex's "Twentieth Century Boy" during a scene at a real estate convention. Gyllenhaal and Ellen Pompeo have nice chemistry. But I'm rating it 3 stars because there are many films like this one, set in small New England towns dealing with complicated romances. I wanted to watch this one because I loved Lemony Snickett, which Brad Silberling also directed.
