Stranger Than Fiction (2006)

No chemistry.
Against my better judgment, I gave this one a chance. I really don't have any respect for Will Ferrell, but I had heard good things about this film. And I actually liked his acting. But it was the film itself and the rest of the acting that I didn't care for. If there are really people out there whose job it is to help writers finish their books then I doubt any of them are anything like Queen Latifah, who just plays herself in every movie she's in. Don't get me wrong. She's a nice person but she doesn't really do much acting, it's more like hanging out on the set and making wisecracks. Emma Thompson plays the "author" of Harold Crick's life, and her supposedly brilliant writing is very, very bad. Maggie Gyllenhaal is cute as always but she and Ferrell have no chemistry. Dustin Hoffman reprises his role as Bernard, the abnormal psychiatrist from I Heart Huckabees, but with less clever lines. In the end I found myself not caring whether the author - who for some unexplained reason has the power to destroy Harold's apartment or make him walk into traffic - killed him or not.

Very true, Stranger Than Fiction lacked something of emotion that would have been good to have for sure. I had forgotten Queen Latifah was even in this one; what a shame. I liked this one a little more than the 2 stars you gave it, but your points are certainly valid and I would have to agree. This was almost a step in the right direction fr Ferrell though. If he is not careful he is going to lose the respect of even his greatest fans.

A lot of people really enjoyed this one. I can sort of see why but it just didn't do anything for me.
