When I saw Big Trouble in Little China as a kid I remember thinking Kurt Russell was a god. Due partly to my maturing and partly to some of the crappy movies he made, some time after that I completely lost all respect for him. But he is absolutely perfect as a slightly crooked LA cop in this film. And what other movie has the balls to be set in the most "dangerous" neighborhoods of the city during the Rodney King riots? I enjoy writer David Ayer's cop stories a lot, but after Training Day, Harsh Times (his best in my opinion), and this film, I am not all that excited about his latest corrupt cop directorial, Street Kings, and, it seems, neither are the critics.
