In the Valley of Elah (2007)

This film completely changed my opinion of Paul Haggis, whose lame after-school special, Crash, won an Oscar for best picture in 2006, much to my disappointment. Anyway, In The Valley of Elah deals with a very important question, which few war films (even those about the current war in Iraq) seem to be able to handle honestly. Namely, what the hell is happening to our soldiers while they're over there and then after they come back? In addition to shedding some light on this issue (it's based on real events) it's also a good murder mystery.
