Female Trouble (1974)

Female Trouble has many moments of genius but it is definitely, definitely not for everybody. Originally X-rated, and now NC-17, it's loaded with violence, bad language, full-frontal nudity, and extremely disturbing situations. If you enjoyed the original Hairspray, also directed by John Waters, then that says almost nothing about whether or not you will like this one. It's a little like trying to predict how you would react to Saw based on what you thought of Weekend at Bernie's. Please don't go in unprepared. Start with the much tamer Pecker and then move on to Polyester, another crude and disturbing masterpiece. By then you'll know if you're a Waters fan, and whether or not you are worthy of the film that answers the question "who wants to die for art?"
