Iron Man (2008)

Iron Man is awesome. When I got out of the theater I felt like celebrating for Jon Favreau and Robert Downey, Jr. It's true that the film could've been pretty mediocre without Downey, but thankfully they did the right thing and cast someone who could be entertaining both in and out of the Iron Man armor. I think this is perhaps the best Marvel comics adaptation so far, although X-2 is a very close second. I also think it trumps Batman Begins, which I thought was good but found the action directing to be really sub-par (lightning quick cuts and flying limbs, you couldn't tell what was happening!) Like any action movie there are a few sequences that are pretty basic, but there are also a few that really dazzle. This completely cured the superhero movie hangover I had after watching the formerly great Sam Raimi's piece of trash that wasn't worthy of the title, Spider-Man 3.

This is what I am seeing tonight (at the drive-in actually). I hope it is good, I have not really looked into all of the hype and I am not usually that big of a Robert Downey Jr. fan, but it looks pretty good and I am sure everyone else wants to know how good or bad it is.

Wow, I'm jealous that you're seeing it at a drive-in. I just bought my stadium-seating tickets over the phone. Can't wait. I think RDJ is actually a pretty good fit for Tony Stark, who is a recovering alcoholic in the comic book.

Now that's a pretty good synopsis of the movie, lol... I'm not a big RDJ fan, and I didn't even know it was him until after the movie was halfway through.

Yeah I have a good drive in near me and it is pretty much the only option these days since my daughter was born.

I have to say that I thought Iron Man was lot of fun and I enjoyed it, but I would not rank it even close with Batman Begins. I just thought Iron Man lacked any real depth to it. It had just enough character development and depth to allow the action to make the movie considered good (I think this sentence makes no sense; sorry).

I am glad you liked Iron Man and thanks for the review.

King, check out Zodiac, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, and Wonder Boys and then tell me what you think of RDJ. He basically plays himself in every movie but I think he's hilarious. Dave, I agree that Batman Begins is a more complex film but I'm not sure that it's deeper just because his parents get killed and he learns Judo in Tibet. And again, the hand-to-hand combat featured in most American movies (don't get me started on The Bourne movies) doesn't impress me. You just can't see what's happening. I would rather watch CGI than quick cuts designed to hide an actor's lack of martial arts skills.
