The Descent (2005)

The reason that I liked this film a lot is also the reason that it's ultimately forgettable: It's straight-up terror in a cave. It doesn't bother with any contrived details about how the creatures evolved or what they do for fun, they're just there, and they're not friendly. There is at least one character who is not one-dimensional, and her story ties the whole film together nicely. It's also a nice change of pace for the action to take place where the monsters live (that's what attractive girls get for spelunking in strange places!) instead of having them crawl out of the caves and attack Boy Scouts.
