Gonzo: The Life and Work of
Dr. Hunter S. Thompson (2008)

This crazy bad-ass aiming the gun wrote of San Francisco in the middle sixties: "We had all the momentum; we were riding the crest of a high and beautiful wave...so now, less than five years later, you can go up on a steep hill in Las Vegas and look West, and with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high-water mark - that place where the wave finally broke and rolled back." Damn, that's good writing. The documentary is well-made and thorough. But it almost doesn't matter because the source material is gold and the interviewees are able to recall so many vivid memories. Thompson's eventual burnout and suicide make for a downer of an ending, especially after revisiting some of the wildest adventures of all-time, but it's an ending he had had in mind for decades.
